4 Types of Keywords to Include in Your Pinterest Keyword Strategy
You’ve probably heard that Pinterest is a search engine, meaning that in order to get your pins in front of your ideal audience you must have a strong keyword strategy in place. If this is the first time you’re hearing that, go check out this blog post “Where to Find the Best Keyword on Pinterest” first!
When you sit down to do keyword research for Pinterest, I recommend searching 4 different categories of keywords in order to help you attract a wider audience and increase your visibility in search results.
The 4 types of keywords are: common search terms, pain point keywords, parallel keywords, and location keywords.
Common Search Terms
First, we'll look at common search terms, which are the keywords people often use to search for information & inspiration on Pinterest. Common search terms can be really broad, so I’ve broken them down into 3 categories below.
General Keywords: These are broad keywords Pinterest users to gather inspiration.
Fashion: "outfit ideas," "street style," "fall fashion," "capsule wardrobe," "boho chic," "wedding dresses," "work outfits," "summer fashion"
Home decor: "DIY home decor," "rustic home decor," "minimalist home decor," "bohemian decor," "scandinavian interiors," "modern farmhouse," "industrial decor," "vintage home decor"
Beauty: "makeup tutorial," "hair care tips," "skincare routine," "beauty hacks," "natural beauty," "anti-aging products," "nail art," "eyelash extensions"
Food and drink: "healthy recipes," "meal prep ideas," "vegan recipes," "paleo recipes," "cocktail recipes," "wine pairing," "brunch ideas," "dessert recipes"
Fitness: "workout plans," "yoga poses," "HIIT workouts," "weight loss tips," "strength training," "running tips," "fitness motivation," "home gym ideas"
Travel: "bucket list destinations," "beach vacation ideas," "city guides," "road trip planning," "solo travel tips," "family travel ideas," "luxury travel," "budget travel tips"
"How-to" keywords: These are keywords that answer questions your audience has.
"how to lose weight"
"how to cook a steak"
“how to fix a leaky faucet”
Comparison keywords: These are keywords that people use to compare products or services.
"best kids toys for toddlers"
"cheapest travel destinations in Europe"
"top-rated podcast microphones”
Pain Point Keywords
Next, we have pain point keywords, which address the challenges and pain points your target audience may have. These keywords can be related to common problems your audience has, or frustrations they have with existing solutions.
"stress relief techniques"
"how to sleep better"
"organizing a small closet"
"healthy meal planning"
"effective time management"
"budget-friendly home decor"
"quick and easy hairstyles"
"sustainable living tips"
Parallel Keywords
Another type of keyword to include in your Pinterest strategy a parallel keyword. These are keywords that are similar to your main keyword but generally less specific.
If your main keyword is "vegetarian recipes," a parallel keyword could be "healthy eating habits."
If your main keyword is "dog training," a parallel keyword could be "pet behavior modification."
If your main keyword is "travel guide to Paris," a parallel keyword could be "top European destinations."
If your main keyword is "digital marketing," a parallel keyword could be "content creation strategies."
If your main keyword is "fitness routines," a parallel keyword could be "wellness lifestyle tips."
Location Keywords
Finally, we have location keywords, which are keywords that relate to a specific location or region. This type of keyword is not always applicable, but should be used for location specific resources, or if your business operates locally and not just online.
"best restaurants in Los Angeles"
"things to do in New York City"
"top attractions in San Francisco"
"affordable hotels in Mexico"
"best beaches in Miami"
"hiking trails in Colorado"
By including these four types of keywords in your Pinterest keyword strategy, you can increase your visibility, reach a wider audience, and attract potential customers to your business.
